The Kosciusko County Plan Commission continued petition 2026‑28 from Steven Schwartz for a home‑based construction and equipment‑repair business and gave the petitioner up to three months to address site‑condition and health‑department concerns.
Schwartz told the board the business is family‑run with a handful of employees and that he is working with the health department on septic capacity and a possible restroom installation. He said plans to stone and fence material storage areas and to contain equipment behind the shop were already underway.
Staff and commissioners said they were not comfortable acting while the property remained in disrepair and recommended a short continuance so the petitioner could clean and better document the planned screening, fencing, parking and septic upgrades. The commission allowed up to three months for cleanup and asked the petitioner to contact staff (Matt) when the site was ready for a follow‑up site visit and video documentation; the petitioner said he would aim for a two‑month timeline but the commission left flexibility for one to three months.
The continuance is administrative: no zoning permit was granted and the petitioner must secure any required state or health‑department approvals before beginning commercial operations.
