DuPage County board honors maintenance worker, approves consent agenda and several contracts

The DuPage County Board met April 7 and presented a life‑of‑service award to Wade Westerberg, then approved a combined consent agenda closing multiple expired contracts and authorizing a slate of procurement actions.

Mark Thomas introduced Westerberg and summarized his county career, saying, "I'd like to introduce you to Wade Westerberg," noting he began in the maintenance division in January 2011, entered the county apprenticeship program in 2022 and earned his stationary‑engineer license in 2024. Westerberg thanked the board, saying, "Thank you very much." The recognition occurred before the board moved on to routine business.

The board moved to combine consent items 7A–7L and approved the combined list. Staff read a series of contract‑closing entries (identifiers 261142–261153) that the county described as decreases and closures due to contract expirations; amounts noted in the reading included decreases ranging from roughly $10,651 to about $206,221 and one contract amendment increasing payment to the City of Wheaton for $392,363.41. Those items were approved as presented.

Also approved on the consent/consent‑adjacent votes were vendor awards and renewals including: a joint‑purchasing roofing contract to Olson Roofing Company for work at the Woodridge Green Valley wastewater treatment plant administration building (not to exceed $42,395); a renewal to Hay & Associates for natural area management not to exceed $41,000; and a sole‑source contract to Metropolitan Industries for pump repairs and parts not to exceed $30,000.

The board handled the consent items by motion and voice roll call; in each case the chair called the vote and the motions carried.

The meeting adjourned after additional business later in the agenda.
