Lubbock ISD trustees received a routine financial update and approved several bond-related and procurement actions at the board meeting.
Chief financial staff reported general fund expenditures are roughly at the expected 75% level for the fiscal year, food service and debt service are operating as expected, and district investments returned approximately 3.78 percent. Tax collections were reported in the mid-80s to mid-90s percent range depending on the fiscal-year basis used for the calculation, and enrollment showed modest gains after earlier declines. The presentation described Head Start carryover funds tied to prior pay raises and a new grant cycle that will be expended over the coming year.
On bond and construction matters, staff connected several architect agreements to the $158.65 million bond approved by voters last year and requested authorization to finalize amended AIA owner-architect agreements. The board approved agreements to proceed with design planning for multiple projects, including renovations at three middle schools (an agreement the staff cited at $26.245 million in combined construction for Atkins, Hutcherson and Kavasos), renovations for Mcool Academy, Irons Middle and Rush Elementary (staff cited about $18.298 million combined), and the design scope for three new elementary schools (combined construction estimates were discussed as part of bond planning). Approval allows staff to proceed with design planning; no change orders or major scope increases were approved at the meeting.
The board also approved a slate of district purchases (security film, copy/print contract, food-service monitoring equipment, reading curriculum, student-progress software, credit-recovery platform, Chromebooks as part of grade-cycle replacements, network security services) and several contract renewals (including food service management and wide-area networking), plus geotechnical and materials-testing contracts tied to bond work. All motions were approved by roll-call/show-of-hands and recorded as carried 7–0.
What happens next: Staff will proceed with design and procurement steps under the terms discussed and return to the board if scope or budget changes require additional approval.
