Residents urge county to exclude Harper Road from Midshore 3 in solid waste plan comments

The hearing, opened by county staff and Mr. Patrick Thompson, noted the draft had been submitted to MDE and made available at libraries and municipal offices for review.
James Schroeder testified he lives near the potential site behind his house and said, "I'm definitely not in favor of that location at any point," listing concerns about private wells, odors, noise and dump‑truck traffic through residential areas. Laura Schroeder presented a written testimony objecting to the plan's lack of detailed siting procedures and urged the county to remove the Harper Road site from consideration, citing wetlands, a stream on the property, proximity to houses and poor access to highways.
County staff confirmed the draft plan was circulated to municipalities and that public comments received would be part of the record. After hearing testimony, the commissioners closed oral comments for the evening but held the record open for two weeks to allow additional written input.
The county will review comments and continue the public process before adopting a final 10‑year solid waste plan that must satisfy Maryland Department of the Environment rules.
