CSLB proposes trade‑specific 'Get Licensed to Build' workshops, targets HVAC and landscaping

Staff told the Licensing Committee on April 30 that CSLB currently offers monthly bilingual 'Get Licensed to Build' online workshops and posts recordings to YouTube. To better reach prospective licensees, staff proposed offering trade‑specific workshops once per quarter with tailored outreach to trade associations, apprenticeship programs, community college building trade programs and social media.
The first two trades staff suggested targeting were HVAC and landscaping. Staff said the trade‑specific sessions would include information on apprenticeship and experience opportunities, trade‑specific certifications and other guidance to help unlicensed or under‑licensed workers pursue licensure. Staff also noted existing programs run by trade groups — for example, the California Landscape Contractors Association’s Helping Hands program — and said CSLB would add produced videos to its YouTube channel for ongoing access.
Board member Michael Mark volunteered to assist with outreach strategy. Staff did not propose a formal action for immediate vote; they asked for committee feedback on industry groups to contact and marketing approaches. The committee did not receive public comment on this item.
