Assistant Public Works Director Valerie Velasquez Santoro presented a comprehensive capital improvement program (CIP) update at the May 12 meeting. The city’s five-year CIP totals approximately $108 million, with roughly $44 million funded in the immediate two-year window; later years remain planning-level and contingent on future appropriations.
Velasquez Santoro reviewed recently completed projects — including restored historic street lights, a repaired council-chambers roof, a new play set at Dawson Park, gateway signage and a resurfaced skate park — and outlined active and upcoming projects: Lone Hill resurfacing (Route 66 to the 210 freeway), Highway Safety Improvement Program cycles 11 and 12 (intersection and crosswalk upgrades), the Sand-Demus Wash trail extension, water-and-street replacement projects (Gladstone to Route 66 and Colorado/Cypress corridors), North Glendora Reservoir design, a stormwater-capture facility at Finkbiner and a planned South Hills bike park.
Council was told that many projects are grant-funded or in advanced design; staff emphasized accessibility and pavement-condition goals (citywide PCI ~63 with a Council goal of 70). Staff also announced three public workshops set for the third Tuesday in June, July and September to delve into project prioritization, phasing and funding options (grants, land sales, debt issuance and possible advisory committee formation). The council voted unanimously to receive and file the update.
