Frog Committee withdraws proposed parcel-tax initiative, will pursue alternatives with city

Gary Ber, representing the Frog Committee, announced during public comment at the May 12 Glendora City Council meeting that the group will not seek to qualify a citizens’ initiative to place a special parcel tax on the November 2026 ballot. "The process for a citizens committee to qualify for a measure for the ballot is extremely costly and burdensome," Ber said, adding the committee received fewer than 100 survey responses and decided to pause the ballot effort while exploring other funding options with the city.
Ber said the committee filed an administrative notice with the city clerk and delivered a packet of survey results to council. He described the decision as the product of months of exploration and pointed to alternatives the group plans to pursue in collaboration with council and staff, including participation in upcoming city workshops focused on facility needs and funding options.
Mayor David Frerieden Doll and council members thanked Ber and the committee for engaging the community. Several council members — including Mr. Thompson and Shauna — praised the public conversation the committee prompted and encouraged continued public involvement as staff and council examine repair and funding strategies.
The withdrawal does not end public discussion about facility upgrades. Staff and council have scheduled a series of public workshops in June, July and September to evaluate project priorities and funding approaches; those workshops were described later in the meeting's capital improvement presentation.
