The Ellsworth School Department school board accepted the resignation of board member Beth Alteri, who said she will be moving out of the district and submitted a formal letter of resignation. Paul read Alteri’s letter to the board, in which she thanked staff and parents and cited life circumstances for her departure.
Board members responded emotionally to the announcement and asked about next steps. A board member explained that the district will follow state statute and their charter in filling the vacancy: the board will appoint someone to serve the remainder of Alteri’s term until the upcoming election and will solicit letters of interest from members of the public. Information about the process and how to apply will be posted on the district website, the board said.
No vote tally was recorded in the meeting transcript beyond motions and general assent. The board emphasized the appointment is an interim measure until voters select a replacement at the November election.
