Siloam Springs board discusses Daypring daycare purchase, seeks state facility funds with March application deadline

Board members reported active negotiations over a proposed purchase of a Daypring facility intended to become a district-run daycare and possibly an elementary school. Mr. Patrick told the board the district is working with its attorney and Hallmark corporate counsel on a purchase agreement that may include an option for early partial possession around April 1 to begin renovations for next year’s daycare operations.
Patrick said Mike Spaith has donated substantial time to develop plans for the daycare and that the district is coordinating construction planning with CR Crawford and district staff to keep costs low and avoid drawing from building funds. “I am hopeful that we can come to some specific terms in that agreement in the next week or so,” he said.
On related funding, Patrick reported the district met with the Arkansas Department of Education for a pre-review of its facility funding application. He said the district identified and clarified some discrepancies and is “trending” toward possible funding for Daypring and upgrades at North Side and Southside, but cautioned the approval timeline is long: applications are due March 1, revisions by March 15, the district may not learn approval status for about six months, and disbursement would occur substantially later.
Dr. McClung and board president Chris joined the Little Rock meeting and said state reviewers noted the district’s fiscal stewardship and the Daypring plan as cost-saving in the long term. No final funding awards were announced; the board’s next steps are to finalize the purchase agreement and submit the state application by March 1.
