Committee approves Clemson mutual-aid agreement and forwards event policing memorandum to council

The committee unanimously approved forwarding a familiar mutual-aid contract with Clemson University to full council after staff said the document reflects a change in Clemson's administration. Mr. Kalin moved the motion and it was seconded and carried.
Separately, staff described a proposed memorandum of understanding that would authorize the city administrator and police chief to enter into agreements with other law-enforcement agencies to provide coverage at an increasing number of special events — including stadium functions, cultural-center programming, parades and other activities. The committee voted to forward the memorandum to full council for authorization.
Staff said the agreements are intended to help the city manage additional side jobs and event-related coverage and noted existing mutual-aid relationships with neighboring agencies. Both measures will appear on the full-council agenda for approval.
