Mauldin committee forwards balanced FY27 budget with no tax increase

The Finance & Policy Committee on Monday voted to forward a proposed fiscal year 2026–27 budget totaling $49,952,250 to full council for first reading and a public hearing. Mr. Duncan, presenting the budget, said the proposal is balanced “with no tax increase.”
The draft budget includes $2.9 million for vehicles and equipment across police, fire and public works, $534,000 for resurfacing, $250,000 for continued sidewalks and trails construction, and a 2% cost-of-living adjustment for staff. Mr. Duncan said the packet provided to council includes the ordinance and a fee schedule and that public hearings will be scheduled at first reading.
Committee members moved and seconded the measure without extended discussion; the motion carried and the item will appear on the full-council calendar for consideration. The committee previously forwarded a separate budget-amendment ordinance consolidating approved adjustments from the past year, which staff said totals more than $9 million and will also go to full council.
If approved by council, the budget would take effect July 1, 2026; committee staff said no millage change is proposed in the draft. The full council will set hearing dates and consider the ordinance on the council docket.
