Tyler council canvasses May 2 results, calls June 13 mayoral runoff; two councilmembers sworn in

City Clerk Cassandra Frazier read the official canvass of the May 2, 2026 Tyler City Council election and asked the council to adopt an ordinance declaring the results. "What you have in your packet is a little different than what we received after the final count," Frazier said as she read totals and named Petra Hawkins the winner in District 2, Clint Chiles the winner in District 4 and Colleen Bass the winner in District 6.
The clerk reported the total votes cast in the contest were 8,852. Because no candidate for mayor at large won a majority, the council adopted a resolution scheduling a runoff election for June 13, 2026. The council voted by voice to adopt the ordinance declaring the district results and to call the mayoral runoff.
Immediately after the canvass the council administered oaths of office. Judge Amy McKellar administered the oath to Clint Chiles, who repeated the statutory oath, and to Colleen Bass. Mayor Chloe congratulated the newly sworn members and thanked outgoing members Brad Curtis and James Win "for six years" of service.
Councilmember Petra Hawkins was then elected mayor pro tem by a council motion and voice vote.
The council’s action will be followed by the formal runoff election process for mayor on June 13; Frazier said the ordinance and the canvass record are being entered into the official minutes. No financial penalties or legal objections were recorded in the meeting minutes on the canvass or the runoff call.
