Liberty Elementary construction advancing; district says concrete batch issue resolved

Harrison said the gym structure is now in place and pointed to aerial photos showing classroom wings and structural steel. He reported one area where a concrete batch failed to reach required compression strength; the architect, engineers and contractor removed the deficient concrete, replaced it, and conducted three-day compression tests with satisfactory results. "Those that concrete was taken out and has been put back the right way," Harrison said. A seven-day test was scheduled to confirm results.
Harrison described safety features being installed across the campus, including pedestrian and vehicular guardrails on retaining walls, and noted the gym is built to an ICC 500-type shelter standard intended to provide protection in extreme storms.
The Liberty Elementary structural assembly was described as commencing in late January, with guardrails expected complete in February and the district reporting the project "on budget and on schedule" for a March 2027 substantial completion target. The administrative building renovation was reported behind on specific phases due to contractor scheduling conflicts, with phase-level shifts but an overall substantial completion target in May 2027.
Board members asked questions; Mr. Harrison said daily coordination with contractors is ongoing and that monitoring and testing follow standard procedures.
What’s next: The district will continue scheduled compression testing and report progress to the board; administration said they will monitor scheduling pressures on the administration renovation and work to return phasing to plan.
