Waynesville R-VI board approves midyear budget revision and routine agenda items

The Waynesville R-VI Board of Education on January X approved a midyear FY26 budget revision after an administrative presentation outlining revenue and expenditure updates, construction-related lease-purchase proceeds and projections for operating and capital balances.
Mr. Harrison summarized FY25 ending balances and FY26 projections, noting a $50 million lease-purchase for the Liberty Elementary project that drove a large one-time local revenue entry. He said state per-student funding increased from $6,740 to $7,145 and that projected total FY26 expenditures are approximately $153.5 million. "That money comes in as a local revenue stream," Harrison said of the lease purchase, and he described conservative budgeting for volatile federal impact-aid funds.
After the budget presentation the board moved and approved the January budget revision by a show-of-hands vote.
The board also approved a slate of routine action items following administrative recommendations: the 2026 summer school proposal (second read), updates to the Waynesville High School and Career Center course description book for 2026–27, several job description revisions (including Secretary Perimeter Center and Food Service Maintenance Secretary), the proposed election ballot, and the 2026–27 school calendar. Each item was moved, seconded and approved by show of hands.
Administration presented and the board approved a contract for the Waynesville Middle School cafeteria expansion with James R. Thomas Construction in the amount recorded in board materials (the transcript contains a numeric transcription error for the amount). Mr. Harrison said the district recommends the contract as presented; the board approved it by roll call substitute (show-of-hands) vote.
Board members who participated in motions or seconds were identified during the meeting; votes were recorded as passed by show of hands with no individual roll-call tallies provided in the transcript. The meeting adjourned after approval of the day’s agenda items.
