Waterbury Board names three new principals, effective July 1

The Waterbury Board of Education approved three principal appointments on motions brought during its regular meeting. Commissioners voted to appoint Charelle Herbert as North End Middle School principal, Dana Wallace as principal of Rotella Interdistrict Magnet School, and Carla Fedanza as principal of Wendel Cross preK–8; all appointments are effective July 1, 2026.

Superintendent Dr. Schwarz recommended each candidate and highlighted their district experience. Introducing Herbert, Dr. Schwarz said, “Im pleased to recommend Miss Charelle Herbert for the position of North End Middle School principal for Waterbury Public Schools.” The board then voted to approve the appointment, and Herbert addressed the board, saying: “I am truly honored and humbled to stand before you tonight as the new building principal of North Middle School.”

Dr. Schwarz recommended Dana Wallace for Rotella, noting her 22 years of service and experience with magnet school enrollment and fiscal responsibilities; the board approved that appointment. Carla Fedanza was approved to lead Wendel Cross after Dr. Schwarz described her 24 years in the district and prior role as vice principal; Fedanza told the board she is committed to building a school culture “grounded in respect, collaboration, accountability, and compassion.”

Each motion was seconded and carried by the board. The appointments follow several retirements the district noted earlier in the meeting, and the superintendent said the hires are intended to provide continuity of leadership for the affected schools.

Next steps: all three appointees will assume their roles on July 1, 2026, and the board recorded the votes in the meeting minutes.
