At its May 12 meeting the Kankakee County Board approved public works procurement and an honorary roadway designation.
The highways committee presented bid recommendations and the board voted to award a contract to Gallagher Asphalt for approximately $559,000 for public highway improvements and to award work on Pemrook Road (amounts read into the record by staff). The chair summarized the awards and a roll call vote carried the motion.
The board also approved a resolution designating County Highway 2 (4,000 South Road between 13,000 East Road and 14,000 East Road) as the honorary Robert and Lucille Hayes Roadway, with signage to be installed and maintained through May 12, 2036. Speaking in support, Rosemary Foster and other members recounted the Hayes family’s community service and the board approved the designation by voice vote.
Both actions were presented under the highways and resolutions committees; staff and members emphasized local contractor interest in pending bids and the community significance of the honorary roadway designation.
