Engineer says Camden sewer alternatives would cost $13–$16 million; board authorizes grant applications

At the May 18 meeting, Darian Warren of Wagner Engineering presented an assessment of the Camden Wastewater Improvement Project (area between 1617 and Highway 43). Warren said the firm reviewed existing conditions, noted most homes and the four local schools use on‑site treatment, and identified four alternatives: three would build treatment within the Camden area and one would pump wastewater to a City of Canton facility. "Of those, 4 alternatives, the cost range from 13,000,000 to, $16,000,000 in cost," Warren said.
The board moved to acknowledge the report and later voted to authorize county staff and the county's engineering group to pursue state and federal grant programs and complete applications to help fund the project. Supervisors discussed funding programs and the need to return to the board with grant applications and project details.
Next steps include continued evaluation of alternatives, grant application work by county engineering staff and returning to the board with refined estimates and funding options before any design or construction decisions.
