Playground committee says $1 million goal met; inclusive playground build to begin after school

Anna Wagel and Lisa Corpy, co‑chairs of the district playground committee, told the Alexander Local School District board on May 13 that the community exceeded its fundraising goal and raised $1,000,000 to build an inclusive playground.
"We made the goal. We raised the million dollars," Wagel said, thanking community donors and volunteers. She and Corpy said excavation will begin at the end of May, the build should be complete by early July and the district will hold a community celebration Sept. 20 after students return to school.
Wagel credited donated excavation services from Parks and Land Clearing and Excavation and a supporter named Zach Fraud for covering substantial costs. The committee noted it will prepare a final summary once the last phase of the build is installed.
Superintendent Hampton and board members thanked the volunteers and donors, calling the effort a community achievement that improves campus accessibility for children with disabilities. The board did not take any formal action related to the playground at the May 13 meeting beyond receiving the announcement.
The playground announcement preceded a longer fiscal presentation by the superintendent about district finances and a later board vote to proceed with a levy proposition.
