Commission told new law lowers minimum age for bid-caller license from 18 to 16
Summary

At the May 18 meeting staff member Anna updated the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission on a legislative change affecting bid-caller licensing.
Anna said lawmakers passed SB 1904 / HB 1982 to lower the minimum age for bid-caller licensure from 18 to 16. "It was signed by the governor on 04/27/2026, and it is a bill that went into effect on the date of signature," Anna said, adding the change is recorded as Public Chapter 840.
Anna told the commission the change appears to be statutory only and will not require rulemaking because the rules did not explicitly set the age for bid callers. She said the measure was done in part to encourage younger participation in the industry, noting a connection with FFA outreach to promote interest among high-school-aged students.
Commissioners had no further questions on the item and Anna said she would provide any additional bill summaries at the next meeting if necessary.
