Chester accepts $400,000 EDA grant and names nonprofit partners

The Chester City Council voted May 13 to accept a $400,000 Economic Development Administration (EDA) Distress Area Recompete pilot program Phase One strategy-development grant and authorized the mayor or his designee to execute necessary documents.
During the reading of Resolution 60 staff said the award includes a nonprofit partner allocation and a program coordinator role: the resolution "select Tech Central Network as the nonprofit partner in an amount not to exceed $140,000 and Just Strategies as the recompete pilot program coordinator in an amount not to exceed $80,000," language that council approved by roll call.
Council authorized the mayor to take all actions required to comply with grant terms including program implementation, reporting and financial management. The motion passed on final action with Councilors Williams and Davis and Deputy Mayor West recorded as voting yes.
Next steps: the mayor's office and assigned staff will execute grant documents and begin strategy development work with the named partners, subject to grant terms and reporting obligations.
