Monroe City Council confirms Eric Patterson to Planning Commission; approves consent agenda

The Monroe City Council unanimously confirmed Eric Patterson to a midterm vacancy on the city’s Planning Commission on May 12, voting 7-0 to approve the mayor’s appointment. The council also approved the meeting’s consent agenda by the same margin.

Patterson introduced himself to the council, saying, “My name is Eric Patterson. And I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve in the Monroe Planning Commission. Monroe is a community where I’m raising my son. I believe I’m fourth generation here.” He said his background as a registered nurse has taught him to “listen carefully, evaluate information objectively and collaborate respectfully,” and that he supports the city’s Imagine Monroe planning vision.

Council Member Blair moved to confirm the appointment to position seven, with the term ending Dec. 31, 2027; Council Member Hamford seconded the motion. Mayor called the vote, and the motion passed 7-0. The clerk noted Council Member Gamble joined the meeting virtually during the vote.

Council members who spoke in support cited Patterson’s local roots and community involvement. Council Member Blair noted personal familiarity with his public engagement, and others said they appreciated his willingness to serve. The consent agenda, moved by Council Member Bowmont and seconded by Council Member Fulture, also passed 7-0.

The appointment fills a midterm vacancy on the commission that advises the council on land use, development and planning matters. Patterson said he looks forward to contributing to decisions on growth, housing and transportation as Monroe continues to develop.

The council moved on to other business at the same meeting; the next regular business items and committee work were scheduled for the following week.
