Commissioner reports: animal shelter near completion; health department about 98% done with brief delay for canopy change order

Commissioner Terry Hershman gave progress updates on two county construction projects, saying the animal shelter is nearing completion and the health department is almost finished but faces a short delay.
On the animal shelter, Hershman said punch-list items are nearly complete and praised the facility’s construction, noting the sheriff’s office and inmate crews helped with cleanup. "The project is looks very good. It's very well built," he said.
Regarding the new health department facility, Hershman said the project is approximately 98% complete. He told commissioners the state asked for a change order to add a drive-under canopy to enable drive-thru patient care in the event of another pandemic; that request is holding up some exterior work and could push the opening to about early July. "That project is at about 98% complete...we may have a short delay in it on opening. But it's probably going to be around July when we're open," he said.
Commissioners asked no follow-up policy questions during the meeting; staff will continue finishing punch-list items, landscaping, exterior panels and interior flooring work. No contract amounts or detailed schedules were provided in the public meeting record.
