Coffee County Commission approves TDOT signal upgrades, rezoning and board appointments

The Coffee County Commission on May 2026 unanimously approved a package of routine measures that included authorization for downtown Hillsboro traffic-signal upgrades and a zoning map amendment for a McMinnville Highway parcel.
On a motion by Commissioner Laura Nettles, seconded by Commissioner Terry Harshman, the commission passed Resolution 2026-06 authorizing the mayor to sign a proposal with the Tennessee Department of Transportation for traffic-signalization upgrades in downtown Hillsboro. The chair recorded the vote as 16–0.
Separately, the body approved Resolution 2026-07 to amend the county zoning map by rezoning tax map 059, parcel 078.08 (listed at 4282 McMinnville Highway) from C-1 to C-2 following a positive planning commission recommendation. The motion was made by Commissioner Tim Brown and seconded by Commissioner Franklin Watkins; the vote was 16–0.
The commission also adopted Resolution 2026-08 to embrace TDOT’s Transportation Safety Action Plan. Commissioner Stubblefield moved the measure, Commissioner Duncan seconded, and the vote was unanimous.
Commissioners approved routine housekeeping items by unanimous vote, including the meeting agenda (consent items 5A–5E), minutes from the April 14, 2026 meeting, and appointments to the Coffee County Equalization Board for 2026 as submitted by the property assessor’s office. The commission also approved a proclamation recognizing Jeanette Gunn on her 100th birthday.
All recorded votes noted in the meeting minutes were unanimous (16–0). The meeting adjourned after the scheduled business.
The commission made copies of the TDOT signalization plans available at the mayor’s office for public review during business hours. No public commenters spoke during the meeting’s public-comment opportunity.
