County staff asked the board on May 4 to approve a $167,660 contract with B & G Plumbing and Electric to install a new electrical system at the Riverview Community Center and to increase the Department of Public Buildings appropriation by $196,430 using insurance proceeds. The commission moved, seconded and approved both the contract and the appropriation.
"We issued a request for proposals for this project and received two bids with B and G being the lowest bid," an administrative staff member said while seeking the motion. The staff packet included a standard contract and staff confirmed procurement guidelines had been followed and the award was advertised.
After work began on the roof replacement at Riverview, staff discovered damaged plywood and five plumbing vent pipes that had been covered for decades. Facilities staff recommended a $10,265 change order to replace wet decking and correct venting; the board approved that change order by motion.
Why it matters: Riverview is a community facility used for events and emergency recovery work following storm damage. The electrical upgrade and roof repairs were presented as necessary to restore safe operations and to comply with insurance mitigation requirements.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with procurement and ordering of switchgear (lead times estimated at 8—12 weeks) and start coordination for construction; the appropriation uses insurance proceeds already received, according to staff comments.
