Gilroy Library staff report growth in programs: summer reading, lunch initiative, TeenSpace planning and partner outreach

County library staff presented a detailed operations and programming report highlighting recent program growth and upcoming activities. Staff noted the Imagination Library (sponsored locally by the Gilroy Foundation and by the Don Clark Foundation at the county level) has strong enrollments and that the branch recently reopened Saturday service with high attendance at community events.
Staff outlined the summer reading program (theme: Plant a Seed), the start of the ‘Lunch at the Library’ meal program (Monday–Friday, 1–2 p.m. during the summer), and other signature events including a family picnic, Comic Con activities, a job fair with free haircuts and the Paseo series. Staff also described TeenSpace planning that includes a focus group on May 20 and outreach to local partners; the aim is a teen-centered area identified through community feedback and furniture consultation.
Commissioners were given statistics showing recent circulation and patron counts (staff reported over 18,000 individual borrowers in a recent period, more than 3,400 passports issued in the last year, and over 88,000 items circulated in the last quarter). Staff asked commissioners to help publicize programs and offered PR materials for outreach. The commission expressed support for youth-first programming and collaborations with schools and community organizations.
