Park County Fair Board confirms bank signers, appoints secretary and reviews 2026 fair logistics

The Park County Fair Board voted March 24 to keep the fair’s operating account at TBK Bank in Fairplay and authorized Tara Zuber and Rusty Williams as signers, appointed April Myers as secretary and reviewed logistics for the 2026 fair, including prize money, equipment rentals and a rodeo contractor cost increase.
Board Treasurer Rusty Williams recommended retaining TBK Bank for the new account and the board voted to maintain a single account for now, with Tara Zuber volunteering to be the second authorized signer. Commissioner David Wissel said the county will issue payments weekly to help speed invoice turnaround. "We will keep one account for now," Williams said during the treasurer’s report. The motion to continue banking at TBK with Zuber and Williams as authorized signers was moved by Tara Zuber, seconded by April Myers and passed.
The board approved an amendment to the March 10 minutes to note that Commissioner Gemmer accepted all resignations on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners; April Myers moved the amendment and Nick Bredsnajder seconded. Tara Zuber nominated April Myers for secretary and the nomination passed.
Fair administration reported operational plans and vendor arrangements for the July fair. MacKenzie Rohman said the Mile Hi Barrel Race is returning with $4,000 in prize money ($2,000 per day). She also noted that Jeffco bleachers and mutton-busting equipment will be picked up July 9 and returned July 20 at a cost of $1,660, and that Canon Rentals will provide additional equipment; exact setup and teardown dates are still pending. MacKenzie said she is recruiting volunteers and reviewing waiver requirements for events.
On facilities and royalty, Jared reported the arena is being maintained (dragged weekly) and that "Black Widows" are in stock; the board confirmed that 2026 royalty will continue in their roles, a clinic is scheduled for May 3, the pageant is set for July 5, and the kickoff parade and Queens luncheon are July 11. A motion to move Mya Peruka to the Queen title was tabled until Peruka can attend a meeting to discuss her experience.
The board discussed staffing and security for fair week. Sgt. Mark Dahlsten requested funds to pay off-duty deputies for security and said he will investigate the logistics of using 1099 contractors. The board was notified that veterinarian Britt is stepping down; Jamie reported interim coverage options including CSU Extension contacts and Annie Schultz from CCVS for Wednesday weigh-ins, and noted some days may require hoteling for replacement veterinarians. Rodeo contractor Rawhide informed the board it is increasing costs by $1,000 per performance (a $2,000 increase total); MacKenzie Rohman and Shawn Rohman offered to sponsor the difference if needed.
The meeting closed with routine items and scheduling: Kennedy will return to manage the small animal barn, the BuckSkin Joes requested use of dog show equipment in exchange for handling set up and teardown, and the board set its next meeting for Monday, April 27, 2026, at 7:00 PM in the Quonset Hut.
