Council approves slate of appointments; Robert Parente sworn to Board of Education

The Bristol City Council accepted three resignations and approved a slate of appointments and reappointments across boards and commissions.
Acting town and city clerk read resignations from Cameron Prowl (alternate, Fair Rent Commission), Russell Anderson (Board of Education) and Rob Parente (Parks & Rec Board). The council approved a set of appointments: Connie Cohen (alternate member, Fair Rent Commission, representing landlords, term to May 2028); Jason Messier (Republican, alternate to the Bristol Historic District Commission, term to Feb. 2031); reappointment of Frank Stoskie to the Public Works Board through February 2029; and appointment of Zachary Mayer to the Bristol Early Childhood Collaborative through August 2026. Council also approved a slate of members to the Bristol Central High School roof-replacement building committee.
Mayor Ellen Zapposasu nominated Robert (Rob) Parente to fill the Republican vacancy on the Board of Education created by Russell Anderson’s resignation. The nomination was moved and seconded, and the motion carried. Parente was sworn in, spoke briefly about his reasons for serving—citing his background in special education and a personal connection to Bristol Public Schools—and vowed to work with teachers, administrators and staff.
Several of the appointments were approved on voice votes. The mayor reminded viewers that interviews for other vacancies are ongoing and encouraged residents interested in serving to contact council members or the mayor’s office.
Next steps: appointees will assume their roles for the terms announced; the Board of Education will update its membership records and Parente will begin serving in his appointed capacity.
