Zoning commission to take public comment June 8 on regulation changes tied to new state housing law

Staff described AZR 2601 as a package of regulatory revisions tied to HB 8,002, “an act concerning housing growth,” and said that placing the amendments on the June 8 public‑hearing agenda could allow an effective date of July 1, 2026. The commission also split out parking‑related map revisions under AZR 2602 (recommendation number 50) and similarly voted to schedule that item for June 8.
Staff reported positive referrals from two of three regional planning agencies for both items. The commission’s vote simply places the matters on the public‑hearing calendar so the public and other agencies can comment before any formal adoption vote.
Next steps: public hearings on AZR 2601 and AZR 2602 are scheduled for the commission’s June 8 meeting; staff and commissioners expected to consider comments and possible adoption after the hearings.
