Attorney Timothy Fury, representing the applicant, described the site’s history as a Knights of Columbus hall later used as a banquet facility and said the congregation expects smaller weekday gatherings and larger Friday‑noon services of about 50 people. Fury said the applicant would not operate outdoor music or calls to prayer and would not serve alcohol. He noted the property provides 39 parking spaces, more than the 27 spaces required based on the building’s square footage.
Staff told the commission it had reviewed the application package (site maps, narrative and renderings) and is “fully comfortable” with the proposal; no phone calls of opposition were reported. Members of the public indicated visible support in the room.
The commission closed the public hearing and approved application 2561 with stipulations mirroring standard conditions: authorization for the property, stipulations and safeguards to remain with the property, and that the permit becomes effective only after filing in the city land records under Connecticut law. The motion passed by roll call (all voting yes).
Next steps: the applicant must record the permit as required before it becomes effective.
