Code enforcement committee approves minutes, removes several properties from active list

The Bristol code enforcement committee met in April and approved the March 4 meeting minutes, heard a staff introduction and voted on a series of property‑management items.

Jeff R. Dewey, interim community services coordinator for Bristol Park and Rec Community Youth and Services, introduced himself and summarized his local ties and background in law enforcement and probation work. After welcoming remarks, the committee moved into property matters that dominated the session.

The panel approved the March 4 minutes after a motion by the committee member who initiated the motion and a second from the chair. The committee voted to remove 8 Summer Street from active code‑enforcement old business after staff said the property’s immediate issues had been addressed. Members also moved 61 East Main Street to a long‑term watch list, saying the owner and contractors have begun multi‑year remediation work.

Committee members reported that demolition permitting and abatement for the Chick Miller building at 40 West Street are complete and that demolition was expected to start the following week; they voted to remove that address from the enforcement agenda. The committee also removed 45 Grassy Road from the long‑term list after staff confirmed permitted tree and debris removal tied to a larger development and assigned ongoing monitoring to permitting staff.

Several ongoing enforcement matters remain on staff watch, including multiple North Main properties and the Broad Street parcels; staff said coordinated work by building, fire and water departments is under way and recommended keeping them on the list for further monitoring.

The committee set its next meeting for Wednesday, May 6, and adjourned.
