The Board of Finance voted to ratify a prior action transferring $256,000 from the General Fund Contingency account to the equipment/building sinking fund to purchase 1,000 Chromebooks for the Board of Education.
Committee member (Speaker 4) moved to ratify the Feb. 26 Board of Finance action, saying the transfer is to finance 1,000 Chromebooks and to clean up a previous meeting where votes were not taken. "I'd like to make a motion to ratify the vote of the 02/26/2026 Board of Finance meeting to transfer $256,000 from the General Fund Contingency account to the equipment building sinking fund for the Board of Education to purchase Chromebooks in the current year," the committee member said. The motion was seconded by the Clerk (Speaker 5).
The Chair (Speaker 2) summarized why the ratification was needed, saying the devices are available at roughly $256 each in the current deal compared with market rates "in the $300-and-change to $400" range, and that the board wanted to "clean this up" after the prior meeting where no votes were officially recorded. The Chair called for the vote; the Chair declared the motion carries following affirmative responses.
The board recommended the approved action be forwarded to a joint meeting of the City Council and Board of Finance for final concurrence. No detailed roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript beyond the Chair's announcement that the motion carried.
