Committee reviews final punch list, access-control wiring and drainage ahead of ribbon-cutting

During the May 26 Firehouse Street Building Committee meeting members reviewed punch-list photos showing overhead doors, the bell and generator enclosure stonework and the location for a planned overhang near the day room.

Chris, the architect, invited committee members to flag any items that the contractor should price while still on site. "If there are, I would expect them to be minor," Chris said, describing the outstanding items as largely punch-list work.

Members then discussed access control. One committee member noted that some doors already have card readers while another door remains intercom-only; the group agreed staff should confirm whether the door hardware is electrified or requires additional wiring before ordering readers or key-fob devices. "You don't need card readers in every single door," the Chair said, urging a pragmatic approach and asking staff to get pricing tied to the chief's request.

Operational items reviewed included the lack of a gate/shutoff for truck fills on the apparatus floor and whether the truck-fill fitting matches the department standard thread. Members planned an onsite inspection to confirm whether the fitting is New Haven standard or a different pipe thread and to source an adapter if needed.

A committee member raised a site drainage concern near the front walkway where runoff funnels to a low spot by the handicap parking; the member urged follow-up to ensure ponding will not affect an access panel or long-term conduit placement.

Logistics and next steps: mattress and pillow deliveries were expected the week of the meeting, staff offered Wednesday or Thursday for walkthroughs, and the Chair said she would speak with the mayor about a potential ribbon-cutting dates; a firm date was not set.
