The Auburndale City Commission voted unanimously April 6 to accept the City’s Fiscal Year 2024–2025 General Purpose Financial Statements and Auditor’s Report.
Auditor Mike Brynjulfson told the Commission the audit produced an unmodified “clean” opinion with no material errors and that “the financial statements are a fair representation of what actually happened,” and he said the internal control and compliance reviews were also clean, including no instances of noncompliance with Section 218.415 of the Florida Statutes. Brynjulfson presented summaries of the balance sheet for governmental funds, net position for the enterprise fund, trends in Polk County municipal millage rates from 2019–2025, and the City’s unrestricted cash and investments.
Interim City Manager Amy Palmer thanked staff and the auditor for their work on the fiscal-year close and the transition to the City’s new accounting system. Vice Mayor Jordan Helms moved to accept the Auditor’s Report; Commissioner Sean Levy seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
Why it matters: An unmodified audit opinion indicates the City’s financial statements are presented fairly in all material respects, which municipal bond investors, grantors and oversight bodies use as an indicator of financial control and transparency. The report also included a clean management letter and governance letter, with no adverse comments reported to the Commission.
What’s next: The Commission recorded acceptance of the report and no additional action was taken at the meeting. If staff or the auditor identifies follow-up items, they are to be brought back to the Commission for consideration.
