The Town of North Wilkesboro Planning Board on Feb. 12 recommended approval of a rezoning that would convert a 0.27‑acre parcel on Jones Dancy Street from General Business (GB) to High Density Residential (R‑6).
Planner 1 Forest Pearson summarized the request, saying the small lot is surrounded by residential uses and that an R‑6 parcel sits diagonally across Jones Dancy Street. He noted that the parcel's size limits future commercial development and that sewer service is provided by the town while water is provided by a private association.
Applicant Reynaldo Del Castillo told the board he planned to build a house on the lot. After opening and closing a public hearing with no public comments, the board voted unanimously (6‑0) to approve the rezoning. Mr. Myers read the consistency statement adopting findings that the change supports infill and flexible land‑use controls.
The Planning Board described the rezoning as consistent with Comprehensive Plan policies encouraging infill development and traditional neighborhood development. The board's recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Commissioners for final action.
