Planning commission recommends annexation and industrial zoning for Barnes Boulevard parcel

The Rockledge Planning Commission unanimously recommended April 7 that City Council approve the voluntary annexation of a roughly 1.29-acre parcel at 275 Barnes Boulevard and related land-use and zoning changes intended to preserve industrial use.
Community Development Director John W. Cooper introduced ANX-26-01 and said the property, currently in Brevard County with IU Light Industrial zoning, would be assigned an IND–Industrial future land-use designation (CPA-26-01) and rezoned to IP–Industrial Park (ZDA-26-01). Cooper told the commission the annexation would eliminate a previously created enclave and that city departments expect no immediate impacts to services; he added that any future sewer connection would be minimal if the property connects to the city system.
Chairwoman Karen Kuta opened the public hearings for the annexation, comprehensive plan amendment and rezoning; no members of the public spoke on the items. Commissioner Jacqueline Gonzalez moved to forward a recommendation of approval for the annexation to City Council; Commissioner Thomas Bird seconded and the motion passed 6-0. Commissioners later voted 6-0 to recommend approval of CPA-26-01 (motion by Julie Rebelo, second by Antron Cotman) and ZDA-26-01 (motion by Jacqueline Gonzalez, second by Doug Williams).
