The Rockledge City Council voted on May 6 to reserve city-owned land for the planning, design and future construction of a Public Safety Regional Training Facility and to authorize $118,616 to begin pre-design work.
City Manager Dr. Brenda Fettrow told the council that $700,000 in state-appropriated funding is budgeted for the project this year and recommended exploring a site directly east of Commerce Parkway to allow land clearing, site layout and wetland/flood review. The council formally designated three City-owned parcels (Parcel IDs 25-36-15-00-253, 25-36-15-00-253.1 and 25-36-15-00-260) for exclusive use for City-approved capital improvements tied to planning, design, construction and operation of the training facility.
Councilman Duane A. Daski moved to approve the designation and to authorize the proposed expenses totaling $118,616 to begin planning and design; Councilwoman Sammie Brown Martin seconded and the motion passed without objection (7). The motion also authorized the City Manager or designee to proceed with due diligence, feasibility analysis, site planning, budgeting and coordination and to incorporate the project into the City's Capital Improvement Plan as appropriate.
Staff did not report any immediate impacts on public safety operations; the approval is limited to pre-design and planning work and does not approve construction contracts or a final site plan.
