Oneida County committee postpones decision on zoning and shoreland ordinance amendments

The Oneida County Planning and Development Committee on Feb. 24 postponed consideration of Ordinance Amendment #13-2022, which would revise multiple sections of the county’s Zoning and Shoreland Protection Ordinance. The committee voted unanimously to delay a decision and asked Planning Director Karl Jennrich to return with updates and answers to outstanding questions.
Jennrich introduced the ordinance amendment and outlined which articles and sections would be affected. He said the full proposed language was not published in the newspaper because of publication costs but that the text is available for public inspection at the Planning and Zoning Department during normal business hours and on the county website. He also told the committee that the draft had been provided to the Department of Natural Resources and that the DNR’s comments are included in the project file.
Attorney Larry Konopacki, appearing via Zoom as outside counsel, discussed the proposal with staff and committee members. Jennrich read written public comments into the record; the transcript identifies four public speakers who addressed the committee—Fred Knoch, Jeff Verdoorn, Michele Sadauskas and Eric Rempala—but does not record the substance of their remarks. Those written comments and any materials submitted at the hearing are available in the Planning Department file.
The committee moved to postpone formal action. Dan Hess made the motion; Mitchell Ives seconded. All members present—Chair Scott Holewinski, Mitchell Ives, Dan Hess and Billy Fried—voted “Aye,” and the motion carried. The committee set a future meeting date of March 4, 2026, and directed Director Jennrich to return with updated materials and responses to committee questions before any vote on the ordinance.
The meeting opened at 1:00 p.m. and adjourned at 1:49 p.m. The Planning and Development Committee will consider the item again when staff and counsel provide the requested clarifications and the full proposed ordinance language is available for review.
