The Athens City Board of Education voted Monday to adopt its 2026–2027 budget and to carry a consent agenda covering minutes, quarterly financial reports and a policy reading.
Director of Schools Joe Barnett recommended the board approve the proposed budget as presented. Stan Harrison moved to approve the 2026–2027 budget; Beth Jackson seconded the motion, which carried.
The board also approved the consent agenda in a single motion. The consent package included approval of the March 9 regular and March 26 executive meeting minutes; quarterly financial reports for General Purpose, Federal Projects and Food Service through March 31, 2026; a review of Board Policies 1.006 (Code of Ethics) and 1.1061 (Boardsmanship Code of Ethics); first and final reading of Policy 2.702 (Inventories); and authorization for three staff to attend the Annual Teaching Leading Coaching conference in Dallas, Oct. 26–28, 2026 (attendees listed as Sonya Bivens, Casey Idol and Dawn Martin). Beth Jackson moved to approve the consent agenda; Johnny Coffman seconded and the motion carried.
The board also moved to reappoint Johnny Coffman as Athens City Schools' Tennessee Legislative Network Representative for the coming year. Stan Harrison made the motion to appoint Coffman; Emily Forrest seconded, and the motion carried.
Barnett reviewed the personnel report and the March 2026 expenditure report; the minutes note copies of both documents are included in the minutes book but the transcript does not enumerate individual personnel changes or line-item figures.
No members of the public addressed the board during the public-comment period.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
