The Village of Farwell Council approved a $26,825 insurance settlement for a total loss claim on its salt truck at a special budget workshop held Jan. 27, the meeting minutes show.
Trustee Victoria Williams moved to approve “settlement option 2” from the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority (MMRMA) for $26,825; Trustee Amanda Pfruender seconded the motion. A roll-call vote recorded affirmative votes from Trustees Victoria Williams, Amanda Pfruender, Marvin Frayer, Shawn Burger and Gina Hamilton, and President Tracey Jackson. The motion carried.
At the same meeting, Clerk Ross Wilson told the council the Road Commission had offered to rent the former salt truck at $81.51 per hour for 40 hours per week — about $3,260.40 weekly — but that the clerk and the Department of Public Works (DPW) supervisor rejected that offer.
The council also conducted a draft budget review. Clerk Ross Wilson noted several changes the council requested; the minutes say those changes should be reflected at the next budget meeting on Feb. 10. The minutes list no public comment during the meeting.
Trustee Amanda Pfruender moved to adjourn at 8:18 p.m., and Trustee Marvin Frayer seconded; the motion carried. The minutes note the next regular council meeting is scheduled for Feb. 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
