Under the program, residents pay $325 to cover the cost of a planted tree and receive an engraved wooden plaque they can keep; the city places a plaque record in inventory and records the tree coordinates. Chair said the program has been active this spring with 12 memorial-tree requests processed.
Members cautioned that exact planting locations must be coordinated with staff because trees can only go where site conditions and utilities allow; common requests for particular species sometimes cannot be met because species like aspen aren’t on the city’s plant list. The board discussed operational workload when many requests come in and asked staff to continue managing placement options and communications with applicants.
