Mister Kimble (S16) told the board the current vendor price was about $324 per unit and that at that rate the purchase would amount to approximately $4,375,000; the agenda listed a $4.7 million ask to allow for shipping‑time price increases. Kimble and the tech team cited supply‑chain risk: vendors would not quote prices more than about a week out, and if devices are not available the district cannot provide instruction that relies on them.
Board members asked whether there were backup devices or alternatives; staff said they had contingency plans but emphasized that availability was the primary concern. After discussion the board moved, seconded and approved the purchase order.
The motion will allow procurement staff to lock in an available quantity while the pricing remains relatively stable; final invoicing may reflect actual unit prices at shipping. The board recorded affirmative votes when the clerk called members during the roll call.
