Village Manager Gregg Guetschow told the Lake Odessa Village Council on Feb. 16 that bids for the village street program came in higher than expected and that the council will need a special meeting to consider approving the construction contract with Wightman, set water rates for the year and accept the construction bid.
President Karen Banks (absent from the Feb. 16 meeting) was identified as the official who will call the special meeting when she returns; Mr. Guetschow said Feb. 24, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. was a possible date. No formal motion to set that meeting was recorded in the minutes; the item remained a discussion point for scheduling and follow-up actions.
Trustees used the closing portion of the meeting to offer remarks: Trustee Ben DeJong welcomed new Village Manager Mark Borden (recorded as being in attendance in the minutes) while other trustees thanked outgoing staff and noted the passing of former Village Manager John French. Manager Gregg Guetschow also thanked the council. The minutes list Gregg Guetschow and Clerk/Treasurer Kathy Forman as staff present at the meeting.
Next steps: President Banks is expected to schedule a special meeting to present bids and the proposed Wightman construction contract; the council must formally act at that meeting to accept bids, approve a contract and adopt any changes to water rates.
