Dieter Grube, treasurer of the Clermont Historical Society, gave a brief, unscheduled update to the CRA on the society’s work in the historical village. He said volunteers recently completed identifying and filing a large bin of historical photographs, reorganized World War II displays in the Quonset Hut and placed fragile originals in archival storage while showing facsimiles in the exhibit.
Grube said the society plans to scan the collection and eventually make images available online but lacks staff time and volunteers to complete the digitization. He noted that donations are down and day-to-day operations strain a small volunteer team, though the society has an investment account with reserves for larger needs.
Board members and other speakers suggested recruitment ideas, including engaging high-school students who need volunteer hours, partnering with college programs for scanning projects, and leveraging tourism grant cycles to apply for funding for outreach and digitization. Grube said he and society volunteers will continue to work with Main Street and local partners to seek help and explore grant options.
The society did not request funding or board action at the meeting; the update served to inform the CRA about preservation work and staffing needs.
