Wythe County directs FY2027 casino gaming tax proceeds to emergency services

On May 12 the Wythe County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution directing all of the county’s Fiscal Year 2027 casino gaming tax proceeds to public safety—specifically to emergency medical and fire services as budgeted for FY27.
Deputy County Administrator Matthew C. Hankins told the Board the Regional Improvement Commission asked member localities to indicate planned uses so the Commission can disburse and audit funds in compliance with the Code of Virginia. The resolution instructs the county’s representative to the Commission to convey the county’s intent and provide supporting documentation.
Supervisor Stacy A. Terry moved to adopt the resolution; Supervisor Bradley D. Martin seconded. The roll call vote was unanimous.
The action commits anticipated gaming tax revenue to emergency services in FY2027 and does not itself appropriate additional dollars beyond the budget process; staff will provide documentation to the Regional Improvement Commission under the Commission’s reporting requirements.
