Burnet County Commissioners approve grants, appointments, contracts and routine business in Jan. 27 meeting

At its Jan. 27 meeting the Burnet County Commissioners Court approved a broad slate of routine and programmatic items including grant applications, contract approvals, appointments, donations and facility projects. Most items passed unanimously and are summarized below.

Key approvals and actions (motions and votes as recorded): - Grants and applications: The court approved acceptance and execution of documents to apply for and accept grant #5409501 (State and Local Cybersecurity Program) in the amount of $10,000 with a county match not to exceed $2,500; authorized application for the Rural Ambulance Service Grant Program (HB3000) up to $350,000; approved sponsorships for Kingsland Aquaboom ($2,000) and Music on Main (spring series, $500); authorized execution of an Operating Agreement for the Western Region Radio System; authorized application and representative resolution for a Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) grant for an outdoor warning siren system; approved a Motorola Solutions Service Agreement not to exceed $57,767.28; accepted the FY27 Women's Victim Advocate grant ($58,647) with a match not to exceed $25,136; and accepted the FY26 Cybersecurity Workforce Development grant ($10,601.50) with a match not to exceed $5,302. - Cybersecurity resolutions: The court adopted four resolutions to apply for FY27 State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program projects (Assessment & Evaluation; Governance & Planning; Mitigation; Workforce Development) with a required 30% match. Motion passed 5–0.

- Body‑worn camera grant: The court adopted a resolution to apply for the FY27 Body‑Worn Camera Grant Program with a 25% match requirement. Motion passed 5–0.

- Procurement and facility projects: The court authorized bidding for a boat dock; approved bid responses for the Burnet County Jail fire alarm system upgrade (not to exceed $325,000) and for skylight/roof replacement (not to exceed $219,000); and approved a purchase for a Marble Falls Library alcove (not to exceed $53,222.75) to be funded by a TSLAC grant.

- Appointments, resignations and donations: The court accepted the resignation of Lurenda Henry from ESD No. 11 and appointed Van Neal Veenstra (name correction to Veenstra) and Scott Wagner to ESD No. 11 (terms to Dec. 31, 2026). The court also accepted a $10,000 donation from the Estate of Carol M. Parker for the county veteran rides program and approved the bond for Frank Reilly, Justice of the Peace Precinct 4.

- Financial and administrative items: The court approved the FY26 first quarter cash fund audit; authorized invoices presented without purchase orders (per Local Government Code §113.901); approved various internal line‑item transfers; authorized payment of claims previously approved by the County Auditor; and created an FY26 expense line item for Mitte donation funds in the amount of $72,600.
