Resident asks county to remove county name from deed after title search; staff to research conveyance history

A resident asked Taylor County commissioners on Feb. 17 to remove the county’s name from a portion of a deed she said a title search shows belongs to the Granger family.
Marla Landon told the board she and her neighbors bought lots in the Granger subdivision and showed a title search and surveys indicating the rear portion (roughly 40–55 feet in depth as described by the citizen) had been conveyed to the Grangers. She asked the county to remove the county name from the deed so she can build a seawall and a dock where erosion has damaged her shoreline.
County staff and commissioners reviewed prior meetings and a recorded plat from the 1950s that, per staff, dedicated marsh areas to the county; staff said there is no immediate record in the packet showing conveyance back from the county to the Grangers. Commissioners asked legal staff (Conrad) to research the chain of title and any instruments that might have conveyed the property away from the county and asked staff to return to the board with findings in writing.
The board did not take immediate action to transfer or vacate the county interest; staff asked the resident to leave the title search and supporting documents for review and said county counsel will attempt to find any conveyance that would change ownership and will report back within a meeting or two.
