Sheriff reports staffing shortfalls; court approves deputy appointment

Sheriff Rios reported several openings in the department and the court approved Bryan Hayes as Deputy Sheriff. The court also authorized the sheriff to contract for commissary services.
Sheriff Rios reported that the Sheriff’s Department had staffing openings for two jailers, one dispatcher and one patrol officer and said the jail population was 56 inmates (43 males, 13 females).
Commissioner David Hildebrand moved and Commissioner Dwayne Faust seconded approval of Bryan Hayes as Deputy Sheriff; the motion passed unanimously. The court also authorized the Sheriff to execute a contract with Lone Star Commissary of Huntsville for jail commissary services on unanimous vote.
Other department updates included Stephanie Smith working on time clocks and Shawn Edward attending Behavioral Threat Assessment training with Susan Deski, Pam Kothman and Diane Gradington. Patti Vychopen reported she is contracted for six upcoming elections covering the county's three school districts and three cities (Caldwell, Somerville and Snook).
