Marion Police recognize three officers for Advanced Law Enforcement Certificates

Chief Allen Lawrence and Mayor Stephen Little recognized Sergeant Niki Kinman, Sergeant Jerry Lewis and School Resource Officer John Padgett for earning Advanced Law Enforcement Certificates through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
Marion Police Department officers were recognized by the City Council on Jan. 6 for earning Advanced Law Enforcement Certificates.
Police Chief Allen Lawrence explained the certificate program administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, noting the Advanced certificate typically requires a combination of education, training and work experience and often takes a minimum of about 12 years without college credit. Chief Lawrence and Mayor Stephen Little praised the officers’ dedication and service.
Chief Lawrence recognized Sergeant Niki Kinman for completing her bachelor’s degree at Montreat College and presented her with a Chief’s Challenge Coin. He also noted Sergeant Jerry Lewis is expected to complete his bachelor’s degree in the coming months and recognized School Resource Officer John Padgett and other officers receiving the Advanced certificates. Council members congratulated the officers and their families for the professional achievement.
Mayor Little administered remarks of appreciation and the council acknowledged the department’s training and leadership development efforts; no formal council action was required for the recognitions.
