Commissioners approve fiber internet proposals; county ratifies contract for courthouse and probation locations

Colorado County Commissioners on Sept. 22 approved proposals from Colorado Valley Communications (Meridian Broadband) to provide fiber internet service at county facilities and ratified a related contract.

Charles Schneider, identified in the packet as the county contact for the broadband applications, said Colorado Valley Communications would become the county’s primary internet provider at the listed locations and that Spectrum would remain a secondary provider until an existing contract expires next year. The materials attached to the minutes include business‑service applications and a sample pricing sheet, which lists a 500/500 Mbps plan at $99.99 per month and a static IP option at $6.50 per month; activation fees differ by term and a 12‑ or 36‑month commitment is required.

Judge Ty Prause moved to approve the proposals to add fiber at 318 Spring Street (courthouse and annex) and 2215 Walnut Street (JP1). Commissioner Darrell Gertson seconded the motion and the court approved it 5‑0. Later, the court ratified a contract with Colorado Valley Communications for fiber at 1023 Milam Street (juvenile probation) under the consent agenda.

The packet includes multiple signed application pages and an Internet Access Service Agreement supplied by Meridian Broadband, which states that speeds are not guaranteed, equipment remains property of the provider and early termination penalties may apply under the service commitment. The contract and service forms were included as attachments to the court minutes and ratified by vote.

The actions approve procurement and a vendor contract; departments named in the packet will coordinate implementation and scheduling with the vendor.
