Court authorizes solicitation of bids for probation building renovations to separate adult and juvenile access

Colorado County authorized Juvenile Probation leadership to solicit bids and drawings for renovations to separate adult and juvenile access, add ADA features and improve a drug-testing area; the court did not authorize contract execution and requested the results be brought back for consideration.
Robin Pean, Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, and Traci Darilek briefed the Commissioners Court on planned renovations to the probation building in Columbus. They explained the need to separate adult and juvenile access (using two front doors), create ADA-accessible spaces and improve the area used for drug testing. Ms. Darilek said funding may be available to help pay for renovations.
Judge Prause moved to authorize Ms. Pean and Ms. Darilek, with assistance from a commissioner or the judge, to request and solicit bids and/or drawings for the proposed renovations and to return the acquired information to the court for further consideration; the motion explicitly prohibited entering into contracts at this stage. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Neuendorff and carried 5-0.
The court’s approval authorizes design and bid solicitation work only; any construction contract or expenditure will require a subsequent court action.
